International Conference: New Media #Credibility – May 27, 2025

New media #credibility - interdisciplinary coference on new media

Since 2016, the University of Social and Media Culture in Toruń has been organizing a recurring international conference dedicated to the topic of new media. In 2025, we aim to focus particularly on credibility and the contemporary challenges users face in responsibly engaging with digital technologies. New media shape contemporary communication, content consumption, and perception of reality. In an era of disinformation, fake news, and algorithmic manipulation, the issue of credibility has become a critical challenge. The „#Credibility” conference aims to reflect on the reliability of information, strategies for verification, and the role of technology in building (or undermining) trust in the digital space. Main Topics:

  1. Reliability and Disinformation in Digital Media – mechanisms of fake news dissemination, the role of fact-checking, and content moderation algorithms.
  2. Traditional vs. New Media – is classical journalism still a guardian of truth? What standards apply to new media formats?
  3. Technology and Public Trust – AI, blockchain, and other tools supporting content authenticity. The future of decentralized information systems.
  4. The Impact of Generative AI on Content Credibility – Can AI support reliable journalism? How does synthetic media change the perception of reality?
  5. The Role of Influencers and Content Creators in Shaping Information Credibility – Can „citizen journalism” be a source of reliable information? The responsibility of influencers for the content they share.
  6. Ethics of Communication in the Digital Age – the responsibility of platforms, users, and content creators for the quality of information.
  7. Media Education – how to prepare audiences for the challenges of credibility in the digital world? Modern tools and applications supporting media education.

We warmly invite researchers, lecturers, doctoral students, and students from various academic institutions (both from Poland and abroad) to actively participate in the conference. Our goal is to create an opportunity to explore the perspectives of the younger generation on the transformations taking place in the media, particularly in social media.

Presentation proposals can be submitted via the application form until April 30, 2025.
